Instal the new Compressor2/10/2024 ![]() A mismatched indoor system can start having problems due to the functionality and efficiency of the newer outside unit. So, what about replacing just the outside unit rather than the whole entire cooling system? This is a possibility, but again, you’ll want to consider age. What happens when that air conditioner breaks down anyway just a year or two from now? Then you’re stuck replacing the entire system, anyway. So if a compressor fails, it is worth replacing? Think of it this way-you’re putting a brand new, pricey, compressor inside a failing system. If the warranty is still good, then you should be able to have the compressor replaced at no cost to you because this shows an AC defect.īut, what if your air conditioner is 10-15 years old? This is the average lifespan of an air conditioner, even one that is very well taken care of throughout the years. For instance, how old is your air conditioner as a whole? If it’s only a few years old and you’ve been having it regularly maintained, but the compressor failed anyway, it’s time to look and your manufacturer’s warranty. This isn’t bad news necessarily, depending on some factors. In fact, compressors are the most expensive components of cooling systems. When it comes down to it, it may simply be best to replace the entire air conditioner, and here’s why: Compressors Are Expensive! ![]() The real question you should be asking here is, “should I replace my AC compressor, replace the outside unit of my cooling system, or replace the entire air conditioner?” To be honest, the answer to this is, “it depends” and that’s why this blog post is so important. So, if that’s the case, why are we even writing this blog post? If repairing the compressor isn’t possible, isn’t the only option to replace it? The compressor of your air conditioner is essentially the heart of the system, responsible for allowing the refrigerant process that even makes it possible for your cooling system to… well… cool. Thread will be updated over the coming weeks/months as I sort this issue out. Here’s the thing-you can’t repair an air conditioner’s compressor if it breaks down. If anyone can shine some more light on this it would be much appreciated. If this is the case, Im just gonna leave it and pray it all works out. ![]() From the online parts diagrams it seems to be inside the dash near the firewall. It has been recommended that I change it, however I have no clue where the hell it is in this car. The part that has me stumped is the expansion valve. Because the system will be flushed I also will need to replace the dryer/accumulator. I plan to use this flush bottle kit and a solvent such as laquer thinner or an AC flush to clear it all out. In order for this job to go well, I need to remove the compressor and flush the system. ![]() Straight from its $374 plus tax and all that, so I hope partgeeks is reliable. Obviously the Denso is the best choice for longetivity, so this is most likely the route I will be taking. If so, this job is about to get a lot more involved and expensive.Ĭurrently I am looking to buy a new compressor, options on RockAuto range from a $200 UAC compressor, all the way up to buying a brand new Denso unit for $330. The next step is to order a new compressor and take off the current one to see if theres any metal shavings in the lines. He said if the AC still blows cold, the failure is most likely the bearing and this wouldnt contaminate the system. I contacted my mechanic to ask for some advice, as the AC still blows cold and I dont want to have to replace the entire system if I can help it. Im pretty sure this is supposed to be silent when I spin it, so now starts the journy of learning how to replace and AC compressor myself.
